Removing Books from Schools

Talk About It Tuesday: Removing Books from Schools

Did you know 34 books were removed from Menomonee Falls schools—without following policy?

Books in school libraries aren’t just randomly placed on shelves. Trained Library Media Specialists carefully select them using trusted professional sources, not privately funded rating systems. Yet, despite having a policy in place (Policy & Procedure 872), decisions were made behind closed doors without their expertise.

So, what was removed? Some books were part of the English curriculum, others were meant for parent-supported reading, and even literary classics are gone.

Where are these books now? Will they come back? We deserve answers. We deserve better. Because this is about more than just books—it’s about trust, transparency, and the future of our schools.
